Our 10.00am Sunday service includes the sharing of the peace which is entered into enthusiastically and provides an opportunity to greet newcomers and visitors to the Church.
During this service we also run our children’s club “J Club”. This is an active group for primary age children and takes place for the first half of the service with the children returning during communion. Average attendance at J Club is approximately dozen children.
We have a dedicated area at the rear of the church for families with younger children and this includes a colouring table with crayons and colouring books, toys and our most recent addition, a children’s bookshelf containing a large selection of Christian books for children of all ages.
During communion, everyone is invited to the altar rail and the children receive a blessing. At the end of the service the children from J Club are invited to share their activities with the congregation which is a lovely opportunity to bring the church family together.
As with many churches our most popular and well attended services are those which celebrate special occasions such as Christmas and Easter however our regular 10.00am Service attracts the cosier but no less dedicated average attendance of 65.
The church is a regular venue for weddings and baptisms and we have two part time vergers who assist with these.17 weddings took place in 2009 and we expect approximately 40 baptisms during 2010. In recent years St Chad’s has carried out many more baptisms than this due to a strict baptism policy in a neighbouring parish.
The vicar of St Chad’s has acted as Mayor’s Chaplain on a number of occasions in recent years and the Church has been the venue for the Mayor’s Civic service. The church also holds a Remembrance Service each year for those families who have experienced bereavement as well as an annual Tree of Lights service. Both of these services are currently held in the run up to Christmas.
