On a very rainy Saturday 27th August 2011, the Winsford Churches Together group, comprising representatives and parishioners from churches in Winsford including the United Reformed Church, Over St Chad's Church, Living Waters and The Salvation Army came together at the Winsford Knights Grange sports complex to 'Walk for East Africa' to Whitegate Station and back as part of national Christian Aid appeal.

Whilst the weather was hardly what you would expect for August Bank Holiday weekend the group were reminded that it was just the lack of rain such as this that had contributed to the terrible situation in countries such as Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia.

The group comprising all ages, one in a buggy plus a few pet dogs set off from the sports complex and along the Whitegate Way. The changeable British summer weather saw the sun come out, kagouls and brollies were put away and the group soon reached their half way destination at Whitegate Station. After a brief break, drink of water and obligatory photo call, the group then set off on the return trip. Revd Pennie Hartopp from St Chad's Church said “It was really lovely to see the church communities in Winsford coming together to help raise money in aid of people who are going through the most terrible time. Everyone has really enjoyed the opportunity to help raise money for such an important cause”.
